Q. What will the water temperature be?

A. Although water temperature in the James can vary greatly depending on the prevailing weather pattern in the weeks leading up to the race, we expect the water temperature to be in the low 70's.

Q. What will the current be like?

A. This is harder to predicit, but we chose the date based on historically favorable water condtions that time of year. That said we expect the return trip (down current section) to take half the time of the outgoing trip (up current secion).

Q. I have my own kayaker but no kayak. Can I rent a kayak?

A. Yes, we we will have a limited number of kayaks for rent. Contact Kayak Richmond for all your kayak rental needs.

Q. Can I change my 1500m seed time?

A. Yes, you can change your seed time until October 1, 2014 by emailing us.

Q. I registered with a kayaker but now they have backed out, what can I do?

A. For the 10-mile event we will provide a kayaker for you. For the 5-mile event, we will provide on-course safety support and a floating nutrition station. You will be charged the $25 difference in registration fee at packet pick-up.

Q. What if my kayaker backs out at the last minute?

A. We will make every effort to get you a kayaker but we cannot guarantee one if you notify us after Oct. 1, 2014. If we are unable to provide an escort for you we will move you into the 5-Mile event.

Q. If I don't have a kayaker for the 5-Mile event what do I do about nutrition?

A. Hammer Nutrition will be providing on-course nutrition via a pontoon boat around the 1.5 mile marker. This will include gels, Heed, and water.

Q. Can I switch from the 10-miler to the 5-Miler?

A. Yes, up until Noon the Friday before the event you can switch from the 10 to the 5. There is a $10 processing fee.

Q. Can I defer my entry to next year?

A. We are sorry but entry fees may not be deferred to next year. We do not want to have to decide what qualifies as a good enough reason so this is a flat rule, no exceptions.
